Organization Information:

Working Villages hopes to build the Ruzizi Valley into a self-sufficient, sustainable, ecologically sound development, starting with a pilot-project consisting of a village capable of sustaining 5,000-7,000 people and a program to train people in community development, agriculture and other occupational skills. In April 2006 we launched this project with the enthusiastic help of the villagers and leaders of the town of Luvungi.

With emphasis on small-scale agriculture, the goal is to provide each family with 1. Vocational training, 2. Job and 3. House, to form the basis of sustainable economics and peaceful community development. Additional goals include food self-sufficiency for the community, the promotion of alternative energy, environmentally sound sanitation systems, and sufficient security to provide for peaceful life within the community.

The object is to raise both the material and spiritual standard of living of all who participate in the project, giving them stability, self-respect, and confidence in the future.
